DisAbilty Sports Festival....

a one day event held at Cal State San Bernadino where military vets joined kids with autism, spina bifida and cerebral palsy to try out sports and fitness activities. Started in 2007, the event has grown in size. The vets talk about their life experience and participation in sports and participants then try out various activities.

Warrior Games held this week

The Opening Ceremony for the week long Warrior Games takes place today. If you're near the Colorado Springs area, check out this inaugural event for service members with disabilities.

Each branch of the service chooses athletes. Individual awards will be given as well as an Ultimate Champion competition with 19 athletes and a Warrior of the Day award.

Warrior Champions: Our Disabled Vets and Sports

Tomorrow, 2010 Paralympic and Olympic athletes will visit with President Obama. They will also make another important stop to Walter Reed Hospital to view the film Warrior Champions and speak to disabled vets about adaptive sports.

Athletes like these show what they can do to motivate soldiers who acquired disabilities in war. Sports not only help soldiers adjust physically and learn what they can do, but heal other wounds, giving them confidence and access to mentors who want to share their experiences with adaptive sports.

National Veterans Wheelchair Games in Denver this July

Hosting 17 medal events and an exhibition event, Denver will hold the National Veterans Wheelchair Games from July 4 to 9, 2010 at the Colorado Convention Center and other venues.

Volunteers are needed and the deadline to apply for athletes and volunteers is April 15, 2010. Links for more information can be found here.
